CS2 Terminal Odds: Percentages & Gold Chances for Terminals in CS2

Topic: CS2 Terminal Odds: Percentages & Odds for Terminals

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has officially launched its second terminal. The "Dead Hand Terminal". The terminal system gives players a new way to open containers in CS2. Much like traditional CS:GO cases, these terminals offer a range of skins, from Mil-Spec (Blue) skins and now to rare Gold items like knives or gloves (so far only gloves, but we are hoping Dead Hand Collection Gloves).

Terminals work in a different way than any other Counter-Strike container. In CS2 Terminals, you can "open" a single container 5, and sometimes even up to 6 times. As we can agree, if you get a covert or a gold, you will not use the remainder of your offers from Booth!

Whether you’re a casual player curious about your odds or a seasoned trader looking to understand expected values, this guide breaks down everything you need to know about CS2 Terminal unboxing odds, chances and everything else about CS2’s Terminals!

What Are CS2 Terminals?

CS2 terminals are essentially the next evolution of the traditional case-opening system. They allow players to open the Terminal tablets directly in-game through a clean interface, with each terminal featuring a unique pool of items.

While they share many mechanics with CS2 cases, terminals now emphasise transparency and provide a more capitalistic approach. Instead of buying a CS2 Case key, you buy the item from the Terminal directly if you want to own it. You have 5 tries to “roll” for an item, and then you get the ability to buy it directly from Valve.

How do CS2 Terminals work?

With Counter-Strike 2’s Terminals, you do not open a case anymore. Instead, you get connected to “Booth”, the Armsdealer who also gave Counter-Strike: Global Offensive the skins update back in 2013, via the Terminal tablet.

Opening Terminals in CS2 is completely free - unlike CS2 Cases, you do not need to spend any money just to open them. The key difference is that with Terminals, you can see the skins in advance. If you want to actually own a skin you “unboxed,” you’ll need to purchase it directly through Steam or Counter-Strike. There is no longer a system where you pay for a key and get a random skin! Now you can decide ahead of time whether the item is worth buying.

Each Terminal gives you five skins from the Terminal Collection you’re opening, and on rare occasions, you might even receive a sixth offer from Booth. Opening Terminals costs nothing, but owning the skin/gloves requires payment. If you don’t want to spend money, you can simply open the Terminal, decide if you want to buy the skin, and decline to try your luck again. If all offers were made, you can decline a final time, and the Terminal will be deleted from your inventory.

CS2 Terminal Odds Breakdown

CS2 terminals follow a tiered rarity system, much like traditional cases and capsules.

Here are the percentages and odds for opening a skin from the terminal. Keep in mind that not every Terminal has the exact same odds, as the Genesis Terminal does not feature a "Rare Special item" (Exceedingly Rare for Gloves, but we use Rare Special Items as it became a synonym for "Golds"). Here are the odds of unboxing each item from the CS2 Terminals, first Terminals without "Rare Special items"; such as the "Genesis Uplink Terminal", and also the ones with Golds, such as the "Dead Hand Terminal" and others:

Terminals without Rare Special Items:
  • Mil-Spec (Blue) 80.13%
  • Restricted (Purple) 16.02%
  • Classified (Pink) 3.21%
  • Covert (Red) 0.64%

Terminals with Rare Special Items (Knife/Gloves):
  • Mil-Spec (Blue) 79.92%
  • Restricted (Purple) 15.98%
  • Classified (Pink) 3.20%
  • Covert (Red) 0.64%
  • Rare Special Item (Gold) 0.26%
These are all and the comprehensive odds and opening percentages for any item and rarity from Terminals in CS2.

Dead Hand Terminal Gold odds

The odds and percentages for getting a Gold (Rare Special Item), such as the elusive Sport Gloves | Ultra Violent from the "Dead Hand Terminal" are as follows:

  • Mil-Spec (Blue) 79.92%
  • Restricted (Purple) 15.98%
  • Classified (Pink) 3.20%
  • Covert (Red) 0.64%
  • Rare Special Item (Gold) 0.26%

But to then also roll and get the correct gloves is way more rare. With the Dead Hand Terminal having the same items in number and rarity as a regular Counter-Strike 2 Case, the Dead Hand Terminal also reflects the same odds and percentages.

Odds of Getting a Gold in CS2 Terminals

Gold items are some of the rarest drops you can get in the world of Counter-Strike. This translates to the same odds as normal Counter-Strike 2 cases and case-opening odds.

The chance of obtaining a Rare Special Item (Gold) is 0.26%, which translates to around 1 in 385.

The percentage and odds in CS2 Terminals for StatTrak™ items

To get a StatTrak item from a Terminal is the same odds as getting it from a Case. You have a chance of roughly 10%. Getting a StatTrak pink is almost as rare as a normal Knife. These are the odds for Terminals with Golds.
  • Mil-Spec Grade (Blue): 7.9%
  • Restricted (Purple): 1.5%
  • Classified (Pink): 0.32%
  • Covert (Red): 0.064%
  • Exceedingly Rare (Gold): 0.026%

Are Terminals Better Than Cases or Souvenir Packages?

While CS2 Terminals are visually and effectively different, the odds mirror traditional CS:GO cases. What is the difference now from Cases, Collections, Souvenir Packages and Terminals? We wrote a little breakdown below.
  • Gold/ Rare Special Items (Knife/Gloves): Only found in Cases and Terminals.
  • Rare Skins: Cases/Terminals (Pattern/Float bound), Collections, Souvenir Packages
  • StatTrak: Only found in Cases and Terminals
Terminals give you the chance to have five or sometimes six rolls to get the item you want. You open the Terminal and decide if you want to “get” (“buy”) the item you want. You buy it “directly” from Valve through the Armsdealer Booth. If you do not like the item, you can decline his offer. If you open a Case in Counter-Strike, you have to pay 2.50 USD for the Key, and that's it. You open it and get a random item from the Case itself. If you want another chance at getting another item, if you got an undesired item, you have to buy another Key and another Case.

Note that not all Terminals have Golds, and that some Golds can only be found in certain cases, like the Clutch Gloves or special knives like Butterfly knives. Keep in mind what you want if you open cases!

How many times can I open a single Terminal?

As previously mentioned, the Terminals in Counter-Strike 2 do not function like any other case or capsule. You can “open”, and “preview” up to at least five items to buy via the Terminal.

There are sadly no official opening odds of Terminals released by Valve, and we also do not know for sure why and when the “sixth terminal offer” shows up. Due to players unboxing a huge amount of Terminal,s we can get a “feel” for the percentage of the secret sixth offer. It is widely believed that you have around 10% chance of your Terminal to have a secret extra offer. It is not clear if each terminal has a 10% chance of having this offer, or if you have a 10% chance of getting this offer AFTER your 5th try is declined.

To answer shortly: You can open a single Terminal FIVE TIMES, but sometimes ( ~10%) you get a SIXTH offer as your final offer! The maximum offer you can get is six, while the minimum is five.

Is Opening Terminals Worth It?

Statistically, most openings have negative expected value. But if you do not want to be stuck with a lot of money wasted and not knowing what you might get, the Terminals will be worth it for you. Just remember that the price in the Terminal is adjusted based on how many players buy/don’t buy an item. Valve itself sets the price of the items in the Terminals based on supply and demand.

You also get an “XP bonus” once you “saw” a full rarity collection in the Terminal. And the best part: If you do not like the items, you do NOT have to buy them. You can effectively only open the Terminal and spend no further money.

How do prices in the CS2 Terminal work?

Prices for items offered through CS2 terminals are global and automatically adjusted based on the demand for each item within a collection. This means if a lot of players buy a certain skin, it will go up in price in the Terminal. This also means that if many players choose NOT to buy a skin, for example, expensive Factory New gloves, the price of them will go down for the next unboxer.

Another unique aspect of the Terminals is their dynamic pricing system, where Valve adjusts item prices according to supply and demand.

Thank you for reading our guide on the Terminals. CS2 Terminals provide a modernised, transparent way to open cases, collections, and souvenir packages. While the odds heavily favour low-tier items, the chance of landing a Gold knife or glove adds excitement and potential value. But they do not come for free, as you would still have to buy them.
