What is Animgraph 2

"Today we're shipping a beta build that updates CS2's animation system to Animgraph 2, which reduces the CPU and networking costs associated with animation. Along with the technical work involved in switching to the new system, all third person animations have been re-authored and, in many cases, adjusted in response to player feedback."

Animgraph 2 does also not only make the animations more smooth and accurate, but it also helps with your CPU and Networking issues. The game should in turn also feel smoother and run a bit better, thanks to the new Animgraph 2 system.

Counter-Strike Animations

You might wonder yourself why we have now seen a new animation update for the Playermodels- the answer is simple. Counter-Strike 2 strives to innovate, and, if we are being honest, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive felt really dated at times. Counter-Strike 2 wants to step away from that, and now after introducing more cosmetics and customisation and finally taking care of how third-person animations look, have we gotten a full player / playermodel overhaul! It is quite exciting to be a Counter-Strike player, as it is the first time we have gotten a full Playermodel and Animation overhaul for a long time.

Overhaul

We really needed new animations, especially for straving, getting shot and reloading from the third-person. Your teammates and your enemies will look and behave way more realistically in their movements.

It will probably be easier to tell certain actions with the new changes to animation, as they will be clearer and easier to spot. Your third-person gun reloads, weapon swaps and also your knife pull out animations are not not only visible to you, but to everyone else on the server as well. Time to flex your Butterfly Knife Fade or your Karambit Case Hardened with style!

Conclusion

Thank you for reading our quick update article on the Animgraph 2 animation system for Counter-Strike 2. We hope that our guide helped you understand it a little better, and also made you understand WHY we got this update even more. We really love that 3D animations and pull out animations are now visible to everyone, as most FPS games just make them client sided. This will look cooler, other players on the server can see it AND it reduces files and CPU usage. The best of all worlds.
