Rush Hour and Chicken Pets - CS2 Update

New game mode Rush Hour and Chicken Pets

CS2’s Latest Update Adds Rush Mode but Chickens Have Stolen the Spotlight. Counter-Strike 2 just got its major update in while, as Valve added a fresh game mode “RUSH”, a 3v3 queue built around short fights. Matches move through randomly selected battle arenas as teams push toward the opponent’s castle.

What Is Rush Mode in CS2?

Rush Mode in CS2 is a 3v3 queued game mode built around short fights and objective control. Both teams start in the middle of the route. Winning a round moves the fight one step toward the opposing side, while a loss pushes it back. A round is won by controlling the tower after the enemy team is eliminated or when the timer expires. Each team has three players and instead of playing one traditional map from start to finish, you fight your way through a sequence of small battle arenas. There are 15 Rush arenas, with a selection randomly chosen for each match.

Valve may have intended the Rush Hour update to steal the show with its new fast paced mode and silent reloads but players quickly found something else buried in the update:“CHICKENS”.

Shortly after the update went live, players noticed Chicken Eggs in the Weekly Care Package rewards, and Valve didn't even care to mention it in its official patch notes. What initially looked like a simple easter egg turned out to be considerably more than that.

CS2 Now Has Pet Chickens, and Yes You Can Really Pet Them.

Chickens aren’t new to CS, but now Chicken Eggs can appear as part of the Weekly Care Package for Prime players. Choosing the egg uses both of the week’s redemptions.

The egg eventually hatches into a chick, which can then grow through several stages before becoming an adult chicken, and players can interact, give them names, and feed them.

New Chicken Pets Egg Hatch Home Screen

How long does it take for egg to hatch and chick to grow in CS2?

After you claim it, the egg does not go into your Steam inventory. It sits in a nest beside your agent on the main menu, with the tool tip “Your egg will hatch soon”.

The eggs themselves come in several colours, such as white, brown, blue, green, and pink variants. So far, there is currently no evidence that an egg’s colour tells us which type of chicken will hatch from it, so that remains a curiosity.

After claiming an egg from the weekly care package, players have to wait around a week for it to hatch. The chick can then be named, taken to the photo booth, and can be placed on your agent’s shoulder in the loadout screen. Once hatched, the chick must be cared for with special feed and various in-game interactions before it can grow into an adult chicken. Community reports also indicate that the egg itself cannot be traded or sold on the Steam Community Market.

All Chicken Skins and Animations in CS2

There are also apparently 3 breeds and 35 skins of these chickens. Furthermore, there is also chicken feed, which is used to feed the pet, and the chickens aren’t permanent companions; once they reach the end of their lifecycle, they eventually leave, with the game keeping a record of the pet.

Players have also discovered what appears to be a hatch-book associated with the new pets, allowing players to drag and drop photos of their chickens to keep a record of their pets.

According to @thourcs2, there's potentially even more to CS2 "pets" as the game files also reveal a variety of cosmetics that players can use to customize their chickens.

Conclusion

For now, the chickens are probably the strangest addition in the update. And with players already digging through the game files, there could still be more pet-related features that we haven’t discovered yet.
