The best reds to craft Knives in CS2!

The best covert skins for knife and glove trade-ups

Now with the new Counter-Strike 2 Knife and Glove trade-ups, a lot of players ask what Covert (Red) skins they should even use to trade up. You only need 5 Covert to trade-up to ONE Gold (meaning EITHER a Knife or Gloves). This means that the input for the trade-up is halved from the original 10 skins that are required on other trade-ups.

With only 5 skins, you get a really high chance to hit the golds from the collection you actually want to hit. In this article, we will tell you more about what red skins are sought after, which red skins are seen as the “Best” Covert skins to trade-up to a Knife/Glove in CS2, and the best way how to craft knives with a very cool tool!

A lot of Cases in Counter-Strike share the same Knives or Knive finishes. The first 11 CS2 Weapon cases all had the same Knives! While there is a potential chance for a Karambit Blue gem, the odds are very much stacked against you! Another important thing to point out is, that every Case that has a certain type of Knife in it, also features its Vanilla (unpainted) variant. Vanilla knives are in a special state now, as there are many potential trade-ups.

Best collections?

The best collections are the ones that have the most expensive knife/glove skins and finishes! Some of the most wanted are the Breakout collection, with the expensive Butterfly knife, or the Glove case, with the luxurious Sport Gloves | Pandora's Box. But also the Dreams and Nightmare collection with its Emerald knives is in high demand. We will take a look at the collections, the coverts, some prices and a tool to enhance and understand your Gold trade-ups!

Breakout Collection and Butterfly knives

One of the most sought-after and most beloved knives in Counter-Strike’s history has always been the Butterfly (or Balisong). It comes as no surprise that the Operation Case, where the Butterfly was introduced, saw a huge increase in the price of their Covert skins.

The P90 | Asiimov (Factory New) jumped from 30€ all the way up to 140€, as people are hunting the elusive and expensive Butterfly Knife | Fade! While the other covert in the Breakout Collection, the M4A1-S | Cyrex has been on the more expensive side for a while, but nobody could have predicted that the P90 | Asiimov would ever challenge it in price!

Do keep in mind though, instead of the elusive Butterfly fade, you could also get something like a Butterfly Knife | Scorched (Battle-Scarred), and actually LOSE money on the trade-up! Be very careful and wary of the price. Especially now, with the prices in general not being very clear and still moving.

Glove Collection

Another big spike in price for Covert skins has been the SSG 08 | Dragonfire and the M4A4 | Buzz Kill. These skins get swept from markets as people just use them as food for trade-ups in hopes of hitting some of the most expensive gloves in CS2, the Pandora’s Box gloves. The Dragonfire alone jumped from around 50€ to around 400€, this is a price increase of 700%!

The Glove Case was also a more expensive case, as its price was around 10€ per case. Now with the Coverts being bought up, we can expect a lot more old gloves from the first-ever Counter-Strike glove case to be hitting the market within a week.

Dreams and Nightmares

One of the most standout skins of this whole update has been the MP9 | Starlight Protector. This was always a very underappreciated skin and, for the most part, a Covert you could get for around 5€. After the update, a lot of people scrambled to buy it. It now costs around 40€ per Starlight protector.

Counter-Strike Players are huge fans of the Butterfly knife, and a lot of them seem to be hunting the Butterfly Knife Emerald from the Dreams and Nightmare collection. This explains the huge price increase this covert has seen.

Trade up tool

It takes special people to seize opportunities. One of these people is Rick, the creator of CS2 Locker, a fast-growing site for CS2 players who want better trade-up and loadout tools.

According to Rick, “Since launch, CS2Locker has become a daily resource for inventory optimisation. Engagement is climbing! (...) CS2Locker helps players plan, simulate, and build better inventories in less time.”

“But there was something else: Valve changed tradeups to correspond with float caps. [We] figured out the formula, tested it with multiple trade-ups, and I implemented it into a new site function, the trade-up calculator.”

Now with the trade-ups working differently, a tool like this is very important to see what you can get, and the percentages of items you can get. Here is an example from the Trade-Up Calculator from CS2 Locker. If you would scroll down, you would see the Golds (Knives) from the Dreams and Nightmare case collection.

Conclusion

This is NOT financial advice, but if you want to Trade-Up, you might as well do it smart. Do not get pressured into buying items or falling victim to fear of missing out. Always be sure to trust your own instincts and be careful of the market and this special situation.
