Astralis - Latest performance & results
Astralis, the Danish superteam, the major triumphant, the team that always goes into their matches as the favorite. Astralis has been the measure of things for years and also won the last big tournament of 2020 with the IEM Global Challenge. After wins against Evil Geniuses and G2, the team is now unbeaten for five games and will try to maintain this series against Vitality.
Despite the extremely promising record, the first matches were anything but clear. Astralis had to give up a map in both matches and the usual dominance was lost a bit. Against EG, the team was defeated 14:16 on their own map pick Inferno and looked a bit uncoordinated, especially on the T-side. The game against G2 should have been the end of the upper-bracket run for the Danes. After a 1:1 in maps, the international mixed team around NiKo was already in the lead with 11:5 and won the pistol round. Astralis showed strength and turned the match around. In the end, small things decided in favor of the Danes.
In the duel between Astralis and Vitality, the odds are very even and no real favorite can be identified. Both teams had difficulties, but kept the upper hand in their previous matches. Due to their victory at the IEM, Astralis is currently on the first place of the EsportFire world ranking.
Vitality - Latest performance & results
Vitality ended the successful year 2020 with a disappointing defeat and an early elimination at the IEM Global Challenge. However, Vitality was not deterred by that and came back from the break in a very dominant manner. Even though some of the matches were close, the French, unlike Astralis, managed to win both duels at BLAST with a score of 2-0.
Even though the first round duel against Complexity was rather an easy one, the team convinced with two clear wins on Mirage and Dust2. In round two IGL apEX and his teammates had to play against team Liquid, who had defeated NAVI in two maps before. Thanks to a strong final phase, the Frenchmen secured the pick of their opponent with 16:14 on Nuke and finally defeated them clearly on Vertigo.
All in all, Astralis was less convincing than Vitality for the time being. Nevertheless, the betting odds are very balanced. Nobody doubts the great class of the Danish top team. The last encounters between the two teams were very even.
