G2 - Latest performance & results
G2, an originally German organization, which had an all-French lineup under contract for a long time before deciding to switch to an international team at the end of 2019. Then in October, the next big announcement was made. The organization signed star player NiKo from FaZe and made a seemingly impossible signing happen.
The goal was to create a new top-1 team that would compete with Astralis and Vitality. However, by the end of 2020, this had not yet been achieved and the team lost four of their last five games in December, including a loss against FURIA. The players break was important for the new lineup to settle in and get to know each other better.
G2 will definitely come back stronger from the winter break and is the clear favorite in the matchup with the Brazilians. In the duel between G2 and FURIA, the odds clearly favor a victory for the mixed team. However, this is also due to the new sixth player and stand-in for this tournament on the part of FURIA. New signing junior cannot participate in the tournament due to travel problems and will be replaced by young star honda.
FURIA - Latest performance & results
FURIA was founded in 2017 and dominated the NA scene last year. But somewhat surprisingly, the team announced about two weeks ago that HEN1 will no longer remain in the active lineup because he wanted to continue his career together with his twin brother LUCAS1 which wouldn't be possible at FURIA.
New signing Junior, who could show great performances at Triumph Gaming, will not be able to participate in the BLAST Finals due to travel restrictions as mentioned above. Brazilian Lucas "honda" Honda was brought up from FURIA's academy team and announced as the sixth player. Not much is known about the young talent but he will get a chance to prove himself on the big stage.
The team's last performances were also anything but convincing and marked by weak performances against NAVI and Liquid. The fact that FURIA has to play the BLAST with an inexperienced young star doesn't make the task any easier. All in all, G2 is the clear favorite.
G2 vs. FURIA - Map-Veto prediction
While G2 will most likely ban Overpass, the Brazilians choose Dust2 as a ban by default. Between G2 and FURIA, the tip regarding the maps is on Nuke and Inferno. Mirage would be very conceivable as the decider.
G2 vs. FURIA - Prediction
The spectators can expect another uncertain match with clear advantages for G2. Even though both teams haven't played an official match in a while, there are numerous reasons why G2 should emerge as the clear winner in this match. Honda is probably one of the biggest of these. However, it will be exciting to see the young player perform at the top of the world.
