Steam Community Market Update: CS2 Listed Items Now Remain Playable

Listed items on the Steam Market now like peer-to-peer sites

Valve released another brand new change to the Steam Community Market that directly affects Counter-Strike 2 players. In the latest update, items listed for sale on Steam can now remain equippable and usable in-game! A shift that brings the official marketplace closer to how peer-to-peer trading platforms operate.

Here’s what the update changes, how it works, and what it means for the CS2 community moving forward.

Listed skins now still playable

Starting today, you can now list your CS2 items for sale on Steam Community Market, but they will remain in your inventory for use while they are listed (e.g., your weapon can be equipped in your loadout while it is listed). While listed, items cannot be consumed or modified; this means you can not open a capsule you have listed, nor apply/remove stickers or nametags on listed weapons. You can still cancel your listings at any time.

This is the same model that P2P (peer-to-peer) Counter-Strike marketplaces have used for years, allowing you to play with your skin while waiting for it to sell. Previously, if you listed an item on the Steam Community Market, the item disappeared from your inventory, and you had no way of playing or equipping the item. As of the 5th March 2026, this has officially changed, most likely to be more friendly towards users and the playerbase, to emulate third-party platforms even more, and to become more convenient.

You can now list your items for sale, but still keep them in your Counter-Strike 2 Loadout and rock your expensive skins. Peer-to-peer markets have been doing that for ages, as it is convenient to both the seller and the buyer. The seller gets to enjoy his expensive CS2 skin more, and the buyer can get it directly from the seller without another waiting period. We will keep our eyes focused on Valve and their changes to Counter-Strike 2 and the Steam Community Market!

Update to the Genesis terminals

Here is what Valve wrote in the CS2 patch notes: Added the ability to set your max offer limit for items in the Terminal, and the Arms Dealer will only show offers up to that limit.

This does indeed not refer to the number of items being shown in the sealed terminals, but to the maximum price an item can have. We have to mention that the “offer limit” is very generous, though, starting at 50€, 220€, 900€, and THEN we get to “Offer limit: Unlimited”. And if you spend 1000+€ for a Genesis (or well, a Case item), you might as well buy something from an old or rare collection.

Inferno map changes

Inferno has also seen a few tiny, but maybe huge and unpredictable changes. Firstly Balcony has been extended and made easier to hide on for the Counter-Terrorists, and the Graveyard on A has been completely removed! We wonder how A-side on Inferno will play now...

Here are the Update notes: Inferno
  • Balcony at Bombsite A has been extended.
  • Graveyard at Bombsite A has been closed to the public.
  • Clipping adjusted at small window next to Second Mid Balcony.

Conclusion

While the change may seem minor at first glance, it has significant implications for CS2’s economy, inventory management, and the overall trading experience. We hope you learned all you need to know about this new update. Granted, it is not world or game changing, but it definitely is a nice quality of life update on Valve's part.
