Eight teams were qualified for the European edition of DreamHack Masters and played for the title as well as 90,000 USD. Some top teams decided against participating in the DreamHack edition and used the time to prepare for ESL One Cologne.
Winner and tournament MVP
As the favorite BIG prevailed sovereign and finally won undefeated. In the final match against Heroic, the German team managed an undisturbed 2:0 success on Overpass and Inferno.
Group stage
The group phase was characterized by favorite victories. Alongside BIG and Heroic in Group A, Complexity and OG came out on top in Group B. The teams Endpoint, MAD Lions, forZe and Spirit were eliminated.
While BIG and Complexity were already qualified after two match days and entered the playoffs without the third match, Heroic and OG had to win their third match to advance.
Playoffs
The playoffs started in the semifinals and were played in a single elimination bo3. While Heroic won against Complexity with 2:1, BIG won against OG on Dust2 and Mirage. After close games in the semifinals, they secured the title of DreamHack Champions in the final with a 2:0 victory.
Surprises and disappointments
There were hardly any surprises, the four favorites to win the tournament managed to advance to the playoffs, while the underdogs had to settle for the group stage.
Most disappointing was the performance of MAD Lions. With two defeats in the first two games, they had no chance.
Performance of the individual teams
- BIG: Sovereign victory without any major problems
- Complexity: Duty fulfilled, performance okay
- OG: Good performances against Spirit and forZe, semifinals reached
- Heroic: Appearance in the final, strong performances
- Spirit: No chance in group B
- MAD Lions: Disappointing, surprisingly weak
- forZe: Victory against Spirit not enough
- Endpoint: winning points as success.
