Quarterfinals at the IEM Summer
Today, Friday, the IEM Summer 2021 starts into the final phase. Gambit, Evil Geniuses, Vitality, Virtus.Pro, G2 and OG are qualified for the single-elimination playoffs. The first four teams will meet today in the quarterfinals, while G2 and OG are already qualified for the semifinals. The matches will start at 4:45 p.m. CET and will be played as bo3.
Game 1: Vitality vs. Virtus.Pro
Vitality found back to their old strength at the IEM Summer and had to admit defeat only in the upper-final against G2 after victories against Complexity and Gambit. The French are getting in better and better shape with new signing Kyojin, who joined the team replacing RpK. Since the end of the year Virtus.Pro is once again among the absolute top of the world and shows constantly good performances. Due to the loss on the second matchday against OG, the team had to fight their way through the lower-bracket and won both matches against Spirit and NiP. Between Vitality and Virtus.Pro, the odds are very even, but favor VP narrowly.
Game 2: Gambit vs. Evil Geniuses
Even if Evil Geniuses could more than surprise in the current tournament, they are the clear underdog against Gambit in view of the odds. After numerous losses in a row, the North American organization surprisingly won against Spirit and Heroic at IEM Summer 2021 and only lost to OG in the upper-final. Gambit, as already mentioned above, lost surprisingly against Vitality and slipped into the lower-bracket on the third matchday. There they could win against Astralis and Complexity.
