cs_summit 6 North America - facts and results

All info about cs_summit 6 - North America

The sixth cs_summit was played online and divided into regions like all tournaments at this time. A total of eight teams qualified for the event and fought for further Major points. A prize pool of 75,000 USD is almost secondary in the qualifying tournaments, far too important are the Major points and the associated qualification for the mega event in Rio. The tournament was divided into two groups of four teams each, with the top two qualifying for the playoffs and the two third-place finishers playing off for fifth place.

Winner and tournament MVP

Evil Geniuses emerged victorious with a very superior performance. In the end they didn't give up any map in the playoffs and were 7:0 in maps.

Group stage

The group phase of cs_summit 6 held few surprises. With Evil Geniuses, Liquid, 100Thieves and Gen.G, four of the five strongest NA teams prevailed at this time. Unfortunately, FURIA was surprisingly eliminated as third in Group A and had to settle for sixth place. A major setback for one of the best teams in the world.

Playoffs

The first round of the playoffs passed without any surprises. Evil Geniuses and Liquid won clearly against 100Thieves and Gen.G. The first place in the final was secured by EG. Surprisingly Gen.G defeated Liquid in the Consolidation final and made a surprising appearance in the final.

Surprises and disappointments

EG's tournament victory was not surprising, but rather the start of an unbelievable winning streak of 13 victories in a row. Only Gen.G managed a small sensation against Liquid. In the group with Cloud9, Chaos and 100Thieves they made it to the second place and further to the final.

Most disappointing was the performance of the Brazilians. FURIA did not make it past the group stage and lost valuable points on the way to the Major. MIBR unfortunately showed as so often flat to little performance and is currently no longer on a top level.

Performance of the individual teams

  • FURIA: Disappointing, 650 major points less earned than EG.
  • Evil Geniuses: Sovereign, great tournament
  • Liquid: Stable start, surprisingly eliminated in Consolidations Final
  • MIBR: Not competitive
  • 100Thieves: fourth place satisfactory, good performance
  • Gen.G: Appearance in the final is a great success, surprise against Liquid
  • Cloud9: Fifth place secured against FURIA, expectations met
  • Chaos: As expected without a chance
