Skin Price Development CS2 - October, November

CS2 Skin Prices: October, November Update

It has been over two months since the official release of Counter-Strike 2, and the skins scene has been going through quite the rollercoaster. From dips to peaks, CS2 skins have had quite the journey since the end of September, so let's look at the skin price development in CS2 now that the game has been out for two months.

The Dip Before the Dip

Even before CS2's official release, CS2 skin prices were on a downward trend. Taking a look at the EsportFire300 Graph here, we can see that prices peaked on April 20th, 2023, roughly a month after CS2 was first announced. This price trend was largely the result of a lot of hype around CS2 and how skins looked in the new game From here, they slowly fell as more people gained access to CS2, more complaints arose, and a lack of progress by Valve came to light. After all 300 items in the index reached a combined value of USD 46,571 in April, they fell to USD 34,517 in August(a roughly 27 percent drop) before slowly rising to USD 39,390 in early September. From here, they slowly began to fall again as the community became bored, with no new content, and no news regarding the release date of CS2.

Things Get Bad

While many speculated that the official launch of CS2 would result in a boom in skin prices, these speculations were quickly proved wrong. The disappointing release of the new installment to the Counter-Strike series brought a wave of panic among investors and collectors, and many individuals sold their items, causing prices to fall. Every day, traders and collectors hoped that prices would flatten or start going back up, but the day seemed to never come. Finally, on November 15th, just over two weeks ago, prices rock bottom. The EsportFire 300 index displayed a value of USD 28,617, nearly 40 percent lower than it had been in April.

But as hard as it may be to believe, this was still higher than prices were in January of this year, so as much as this may have looked like a plummet, it was more of a bubble pop in the broader perspective.

Recovery

But all was not lost! In the last two weeks since CS2 skins reached their temporary bottom, they have been recovering in price surely but slowly! At the time that this article is being written, the EsportFire300 Index now displays a value of close to USD 32,500.

Will CS2 Prices Go Up?

It's not easy to answer this question. The CS2 skin market is volatile and quite the opposite of predictable. If prices continue to follow their current trend, a slow increase may be maintained until a large event causes them to increase more rapidly or begin to fall again. For now, we can only speculate and look on the bright side of things: cheaper prices mean players without the means to spend large amounts of money on CS2 skins will have an easier time getting the skins they want!

Conclusion

As you can see, the CS2 skin market has had quite a series of events in the last few months. But as of now, it looks like things are beginning to return to stability, and for now, investors and traders can enjoy this increase in price.
